Barcelona City Council is publishing a guide in ten languages for clearing up any queries on the emergency housing measures to tackle the economic impact caused by the COVID-19 crisis for tenants and property owners with mortgages.

What happens if I can’t pay the rent or mortgage instalments for my home because of the economic impact caused by COVID-19? And if my lease ends during the state of emergency? Will court proceedings and evictions go ahead during this emergency?

These are just a few of the questions that are answered in detail in the document published by the City Council on the housing-related measures provided for under Royal Executive Decree 11/2020 to tackle the impact of the COVID-19 crisis. The guide uses a FAQ (frequently asked questions) format, dealing with the main queries that people may have who are unable to pay their rent or mortgage instalments, or who are in a situation where their leases are ending or they are to be evicted.

Acting within the framework of the state of emergency, Barcelona’s Municipal Institute of Housing and Renovation (IMHAB) has adopted a series of measures to fight the spread of COVID-19.
